Virgin Moon - Shakti Women Circle
“The mermaid is an archetypal image that represents a woman who is at ease in the great waters of life, the waters of emotion and sexuality. She shows us how to embrace our instinctive sexuality and sensuality so that we can affirm the essence of our feminine nature, the wisdom of our bodies, and the playfulness of our spirits. She symbolizes our connection with our deepest instinctive feelings, our wild and untamed animal nature that exists below the surface of outward personalities. She is able to respond to her mysterious sexual impulses without abandoning her more human, conscious side. What happened to the girls who dreamed of being mermaids?”
― Anita Johnston, Eating in the Light of the Moon: How Women Can Transform Their Relationship with Food Through Myths, Metaphors, and Storytelling
Virgin actually means “whole unto herself”.
Our cultural context is shaped around virginity as some sort of sacrifice, loss of innocence, purity and power. The invitation is to explore and reflect in your own life what stories you carry as a virgin and what can be possible if you let go of those underlying beliefs and step into the actual meaning of virgin.
How can we be in touch with that sense of wholeness, the full divine power of Goddess within for which the Kumari/virgin is honored, when we are young girls, pubescent teens, and mature women?
WHAT TO BRING:
- Bring an object or item that symbolizes SENSUALITY - wear it, bring it, show it.
- Reflect on narratives of virginity, sexuality, you hold in the body in the present.
- Wear comfortable clothes, bring your water bottle.
ABOUT SHAKTI WOMENS CIRCLE
From ancient times, women around the world have come together and sat in circles, engaged in rituals, used the power of their intention and intuition to guide their lives as well as the lives of their family and community, and together have held the social fabric of culture.
The power of the circle is grounding, holds women in connection to one another, and supports the synchronization of the rhythm of their bodies with each other, with the earth and nature. It also builds a healthy supportive community.
The benefit is awareness of the underlying themes and stories we carry and also experience the power of sisterhood wherein we are connected with all. A sense of coming back to the body, understanding of self and your relationship with your own energy, power and sexuality.
